Treasured Land
for four-part mixed voices
As I began writing "Treasured Land", I tried to convey feelings of the ancient Persia in the initial part of the song. I also intended to showcase the lively, folkloric dancing themes of that time as they stood in my imagination in an abstract sense. This piece conveys a feeling of both spiritual as well as secular thought. Initially, the audience is treated to a very light, angelic, and rather joyful and peaceful choir singing the praises of a heavenly realm. Soon, an element of suspense and mystery is introduced by means of percussive instrumentals and continued chanting. Then we encounter a brief virtual bridge, which brings us from a spiritual to more a secular, quasi-military feel.
