For the young Iranian composer who travels to Europe for the first time, Bologna had to be the land of fate. Jahandari, a 22-year-old from Shiraz, the winner of the 2Agosto Composition Competition, remembers that here, at the Municipal Theater - five German national premieres were represented, and he enumerated them all, from Lohengrin to Parsifal.

The Checkered City

for narrator and symphony orchestra
"Among the winners of the twenty-first edition of the International Composition Competition 2Agosto, there was a young Iranian talent. The Jury - chaired by the Italian composer Fabrizio de Rossi Re -, met from June 26th to 28th and unanimously chose the score titled "The Checkered City" by Vahid Jahandari as the winner of the first prize.

2Agosto is a major composition competition in Bologna, Italy. It was established in 1994 at the behest of the association of the massacre victims' families at Bologna Station on August 2, 1980. The competition was formed to keep alive the memory of the victims, but at the same time to transcend the concept of mere commemoration, turning the day of August 2 into a creative and artistic response to the act of terrorism.

The competition is held under the high patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and promoted by the Committee in Support of Victims of Massacres, composed by the Municipality of Bologna, the Province of Bologna, the Emilia Romagna Region, and the City of San Benedetto Val di Sambro.

The winning scores conducted by Vito Clemente was performed in Bologna on August 2, 2015, as one of the commemorative events held in memory of the victims of the massacres of a terrorist bombing of the Central Station at Bologna carried out by a neo-fascist terrorist organization which left 85 people dead and wounded more than 200. The concert was live broadcasted by Rai3 Radio, and a documentary including an interview with the winners that was made and shown three times by Rai5 Television. "
