The Checkered City
for narrator and symphonic orchestra
2Agosto International Composition Competition is a major contest in Italy. It was established in 1994 at the behest of the association of the families of the victims of the massacre at Bologna Station on August 2, 1980. The competition was created with the aim of keeping alive the memory of the victims, but at the same time to overcome the concept of mere commemoration, turning the day of August 2 in a creative and artistic response to the act of terrorism. The competition is held under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and promoted by the "Committee in Support of Victims of Massacres", composed by the Municipality of Bologna, the Province of Bologna, the Emilia Romagna Region and the City of San Benedetto Val di Sambro.
Among the winners of the Twenty-First Edition of the International Composing Competition "2 Agosto", there was a young Iranian talent. The Jury - chaired by the Italian composer Fabrizio de Rossi Re -, met from June 26th until June 28th, and unanimously chose the score titled "The Checkered City" by Vahid Jahandari as winner of the first prize. The winning scores conducted by Maestro Vito Clemente, performed live in Bologna on August 2nd, 2015, as one of the commemorative events held in memory of the victims of the massacres of a terrorist bombing of the Central Station at Bologna carried out by a neo-fascist terrorist organization which left 85 people dead and wounded more than 200. The concert was live broadcasted by Rai3 Radio and Rai5 Television. |
